According to a casting notice obtained by FilmJerk, the producers of James Bond 22, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, are looking for a Latina actress in her late twenties, preferably with South American roots. Despite their plea that prospective talent not be worried about fitting the traditional Bond Girl look, since this is the “new” Bond series, she must be quite beautiful, able to handle what promises to be a physically demanding role, fluent in English and, last but most certainly not least, a great actress.
Hmmm, great Latina actresses eh? Well, I hope they do what Casino Royale did with both of its Bond hotties and go with relative unknowns. Eva Green and Caterina Murino were hardly big name actresses when the movie was released and I think it helped the production to stay focused on story as opposed to showing off the A-List actresses.
Luckily, the age requirement eliminates Eva Mendes, Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz. They are beautiful and they can act, but it just wouldn’t feel like the new Bond. I can only pray they don’t look Jessica Alba’s, but if age gets the first three, the “great actress” part will kill Alba’s chances.
If I wanted to make a suggestion, the first name that comes to mind would be Catalina Sandino Moreno, she fits all the requirements and is gorgeous. Just look at the picture and tell me she’s not.
James Bond 22 is currently in pre-production for a December start date and a targeted November 2008 release.
