For anyone that has not yet seen Neil Marshall’s The Descent and is any kind of horror fan needs to get on it, and when you do be sure you see the Unrated version, not the US watered down pile. Then, come back here to learn that Descent editor Jon Harris will be the helmer on the sequel.
Fangoria reports the news from FrightFest where Marshall said, “I will not be directing The Descent 2, but I will be overseeing every aspect of the production. There’s nothing to oversee yet, though, as the script is currently being written. My Descent editor Jon Harris will make his feature directing debut with the sequel, and I can’t think of a better man for the job.â€
There aren’t any details on what direction the sequel will go, but I sure hope it isn’t a complete copy of the first, and I also hope it isn’t a story about people looking for the girls that went into the cave in the first movie. I really don’t see room for a sequel that would bring any originality to the story, but what do I know? I just hope Marshall doesn’t become a one hit wonder and even though I am amped to see his Doomsday feature, the early 2008 release doesn’t have me very optimistic.
Next we have news on the feature film adaptation of the videogame Castlevania, which Sylvain White is set to direct, but it looks like Paul W.S. Anderson’s script wasn’t quite worthy as Bloody Disgusting reports that Rogue Pictures has hired Ian Jeffers to rewrite the film. Jeffers’ only work to date involved adapting Brian Garfield’s novel into this weekend’s release Death Sentence.
The film was expected to begin production this spring. Will it happen now? We’ll see.
