Here is another movie I need to add to my Netflix queue, Robert Wise’s 1951 classic The Day the Earth Stood Still. Scott Derrickson who directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose is set to helm the remake and he has cast Keanu Reeves in the lead role.
The Day the Earth Stood Still will be updated from its original premise as a response to the rise of the Cold War after WWII. Reeves committed over the weekend to play Klaatu (originated by Michael Rennie), a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot and a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar.
Originally planned for a May 9, 2008 release, it was announced via Variety that the film is now looking for a late fall or early 2008 production start, most likely for a 2009 summer release through 20th Century Fox.
