Box-Office Oracle: June 29 – July 1

#1 movie predicted correctly: Eight weeks in a row
I don’t really want it to win but I’ve got to face reality. Pixar films always win, the kids are out of school, and every critic and their mom is falling all over themselves to give this a fawning review. I guess the good news is my streak will easily stay intact.
Estimate: $54.8 million
I think it made around $8m on Wednesday which is pretty impressive. Sadly, that bleeds the opening weekend number, and this $42m is much more hope than I should be putting into this franchise. I’ve told all my friends to see it, hopefully they will buy the million tickets I’ll end up short by.
Estimate: $42.8 million
I haven’t the words for how soundly this was defiled. Oh wait, yes I do. It sits around $180m short of its budget right now, or what I like to call the “executives getting fired” zone.
Estimate: $14.4 million

This one, on the other hand, is already basking in profit only ten days after it was released. Weinstein finally knocked one out of the park.
Estimate: $11.3 million
There is simply no financial roadmap for what is going on here. The sequel script established was a big splash week one, never heard from again. Knocked Up created a new script called “being originally funny.” That was a good script to create.
Estimate: $7.8 million
Speaking of the splash/disappear method, here you go. PS- If they replaced Jessica Alba with a tree in this movie would it be more arsty, funny, or simply better acted?
Estimate: $7.6 million
$195m clams is a lot of dough. Plus it doesn’t even release in Bolivia until late August.
Estimate: $5.7 million
It’s hard to predict good things for this one. Limited theaters, not an action movie, not a sequel, not a comedy, not a horror. Everyone involved is nice enough but that doesn’t pay cash at the bank now does it?
Estimate: $3.6 million
I can’t figure out if $56m total makes it a success or not. Probably not. Computers are expensive, heck the surge protectors alone could break you.
Estimate: $3.24 million
It’s $5m behind Spider-Man 3 right now, $874m to $879m. I haven’t been this exited since summer camp! Go get em Pirates!
Estimate: $3.22 million
