Raimi Chats Up More ‘Spider-Man’

MTV must have finally realized that reporting on music is stupid so now they are trying to corner the market on movie news and at least they know the right questions to ask. Recently they caught up with director Sam Raimi and asked him about the chances he would return to make yet another silly, overblown, too expensive superhero movie centered on Spider-Man. Good thing too, because with all the Transformers hype just about everyone had finally washed the sour taste of Spider-Man 3 out of their mouths.

In regards to a Spider-Man 4, which Sony has confirmed they will make and have David Koepp already writing a script, Raimi had a few things to say. Here is a selection from the article.

“Sony Pictures is going to be making many more ‘Spider-Man’ pictures… I just don’t know what [my] future holds yet.”

“If I can’t find the right story that would work for me and that I could tell really well, I would like someone else to tell that story…. But if it’s a great story and Sony will bring me back to the screen, I would love to.”

“It would be really hard for me to make a movie without Tobey and Kirsten playing the two leads.”

“I would love to see Electro, Vulture, maybe the Sinister Six as a team [as the villains].”

In regards to the Dylan Baker character Dr. Curt Connors who ultimately becomes the villain The Lizard, Raimi said he loves the character, “But [‘Spider-Man 4’] will probably have to start with the central journey of the main character to arrive at the proper villain.”

So there you have it, he wants his cast back and a good story, if he doesn’t get those things he will be more than happy to turn it over to a new director. Ha, sounds a bit obvious to me, but what the hell.
