Is ‘Scorpion King 2’ Really Gonna Be Made?

To date the worst thing about the Mummy franchise was 2002’s The Scorpion King starring The Rock. The film was absolutely terrible but still managed over $91 million domestically. Now, we have a Mummy 3 coming out which Rachel Weisz wouldn’t come back to star in and has been given to Stealth helmer Rob Cohen. It’s chances of being good are up in the air, but when a star won’t return to be in your movie after starring in the first two films isn’t a good sign. I can’t help but wonder what will happen now that we learn there will be a Scorpion King 2.

Word out of ShockTilYouDrop is that Russell Mulcahy who directed the upcoming Resident Evil: Extinction will direct The Scorpion King 2 for Universal Pictures. However, there is no word on whether or not The Rock will return to play the title role. I will say that considering Weisz has won an Oscar since she last appeared in The Mummy Returns I can understand her not returning to the cheesy world of the Mummy, but The Rock hasn’t exactly had the same kind of success so if he decides not to return that doesn’t bode well for this sequel.

Mulcahy’s involvement isn’t terrible news however. Granted, he isn’t a huge name, but you don’t need one for this film and he has hit up the world of mummies before with The Curse of King Tut’s Tomb, a mini-series I actually saw and isn’t half bad. We’ll have to wait to learn more about The Scorpion King 2 once more details surface.
