‘Fantastic Four’ Helmer Taking On ‘The Losers’

Perhaps someone sees something in Tim Story‘s directing as Warner Bros. has now captured the Fantastic Four helmer and attached him to the DC-Vertigo comicbook adapation The Losers.

The comic is described as grity and the story will center around a small band of elite and highly trained commandos who are set up to to be killed by their own government. They set out to avenge the wrong, as well as avenge other injustices. The film will be set in contemporary times, with the special ops team carrying out missions around the world before the members are left for dead. Flying under the radar, they return and move around the U.S.

The script was penned by none other than Peter Berg.

Story told Variety, “I’m a big fan of the edge of war movies like ‘Black Hawk Down’ or ‘Band of Brothers,’ and this has some of that. I was looking for a vehicle that would have that edge, but I didn’t want to lose my personality, which is a bit tongue-and-cheek, where the characters have a little fun with each other.”

So, while the film is still a comicbook adaptation it won’t be superhero style like what Story has been dealing with. After he gets The Losers under his belt we will have pretty much seen what this guy has to offer since he first gave us the comedy Barbershop, then Taxi, then Fantastic Four and next Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

A lot of comic fans weren’t happy with the first Fantastic Four film but with it pulling in over $150 million at the box it was ripe for a sequel, which hits on June 15.
