Is McPhee the Next J-Hud?

Okay, I have gone on record not enjoying Dreamgirls and thinking it was overhyped and that Jennifer Hudson was not exactly “acting” in as much as she had several music videos during the movie in which she sang her ass off… Obviously the Academy and rest of the world disagrees with me, but that is okay, I am used to it. However, it looks like we have yet another “American Idol” contestant heading to the big screen, which makes four by my count and since Katherine McPhee didn’t win the show she may have a chance at Oscar as well.

Word out of The Hollywood Reporter is that McPhee will star in the indie dark romantic comedy The Last Caller, a story described as a coming-of-age tale about a self-obsessed woman (McPhee) who searches for love, hope and meaning during a few random events with other urban seekers. The script was penned by Michael Albanese and no director has been announced as of yet.

McPhee told The Hollywood Reporter, “This is the first thing that I read that I really wanted to do… I’m up for a couple of big studio projects, but they weren’t starring roles. I wanted to start off doing something a little different. It’s something that a lot of people wouldn’t expect me doing.”

The role does not require McPhee to sing so she will have one leg up on Hudson, she will at least have to try and act.
