‘Captivity’ Avoids Room ‘1408’

Just a couple of days ago I was asking someone why After Dark would release Captivity against 1408 when we all know 1408 would have dominated the horror/thriller crowd that weekend despite the controversy that surrounded Captivity what seems like oh-so-long-ago.

Well, according to Cinematical (a site I have been reading a lot more lately by the way, me likey) the release date for Captivity has changed again, this time to July 13, a slot recently vacated by Rogue Pictures’ The Strangers.

Actually, now that I look at June 22 I am wondering who is going to see what movie on that weekend. We have 1408, Evan Almighty, A Mighty Heart and even what looks like a serious crapfest DOA: Dead or Alive. Talk about splitting up the audiences. As for Captivity? Well, I guess whoever doesn’t go see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be heading in to see this one.

Personally I think Captivity looks interesting but the advertising fiasco created a bit of a dilemma. They were originally going to release on May 18, then they had to move the date to June 22 because the MPAA suspended ruling on their film. Unfortunately the 22nd had 1408 and every other movie under the sun and now they have to still hope to make some money off the early buzz as well as bring in the people that were going anyway with a July 13 release.

Who knows what will happen, but with all this chatter about it I am interested in seeing what all the fuss is about. Oh, and we are expecting some exclusive clips in the near future so stay tuned, JoBlo already has one up and the official site has a few serial killer webisodes if you are interested in those.
