Writer-director Alexander Payne (Sideways) is helping to bring Kaui Hart Hemmings’ new novel, The Descendants, to the big screen along with co-producers Jim Burke and Jim Taylor. I’ve never read this book (it just hit the shelves, apparently) so let’s take a peak, shall we?
Set in Hawaii, the unconventional family drama tells the story of a newly widowed father — the descendant of landowners and one of the richest men on Oahu — who takes off with his two rebellious daughters to track down his wife’s lover on the island of Kauai.
The material (a mixture of pain and humor) sounds like it’s right up Payne’s alley but it doesn’t appear he is directing at this stage. I like the synopsis so let’s see who they eventually tap to helm this thing. To read the full story, click here.
