$13.4m is a pitiful winning weekend but that’s exactly what Disturbia delivered. The real story this weekend is that people are saving their money for May. Soon it will take $70m to win; all of these films will be long forgotten.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero Weeks In A Row
1. Disturbia
Look for the ads that say “#1 for the second weekend in a row!” Trust, me they won’t mention they won because nothing else was out. Shia power!
Result: $13.4 million (My rank: #2, $.3m off)
2. Fracture
I’m a little taken aback by how little this made given all the advertising. This is now a money loser unless they start passing the cap during the screenings.
Result: $11.1 million (My rank: #1, $3.3m off)
I’m such a fan of the “#1 Comedy in America!” ads. Love them. I do, however, want to point out that Fracture was quite funny at times.
Result: $7.8 million (My rank: #6, $.3m off)
4. Vacancy
So the formula for financially viable horror flicks is to not have stars. Remember guys, low budget – low revenue, eek out a profit. It’s not a hard equation.
Result: $7.6 million (My rank: #3, $3.9m off)
I was over on this because the decline was much steeper, it looks like the parents are saving money now too. Gotta get ready to take the kids to see Spidey 3 and Aunt May’s bore-a-thon.
Result: $7.0 million (My rank: #5, $2.5m off)
6. Hot Fuzz
This is a great result for Hot Fuzz given the smallish amount of theaters (it actually won the per theater average crown). It would seem that the $2.5m extra I gave to Robinsons was actually headed towards Hot Fuzz. I don’t see how it’s the same audience but I’m still learning this whole Oracle gig, it’s only been a few years.
Result: $5.8 million (My rank: #9, $2.5m off)
Hey, this was a very nice prediction. I still don’t understand how half a million folks bought a ticket to this. I wonder if I put a giant shiny object in the middle of the country if that same audience would flock to it.
Result: $5.2 million (My rank: #7, $.7m off)
The WHEELS fell off. I should have known it was doomed when they only held one screening, and in the afternoon. That’s the technique they use when they’d rather it not be revealed how bad the film was. It didn’t really matter though because the marketing gave it away anyway.
Result: $4.9 million (My rank: #4, $5.2m off)
Halle Berry looked good on the cover of Esquire. She’s a girl who always looks better to me in pictures. Easy fix though: I’d have to bring a camera to bed with me every night.
Result: $4.1 million (My rank: #8, $1.1m off)
10. Wild Hogs
It refused to go away, and it outlasted 300. The Laremy lounge will bet you a zillion dollars it drops out of the top ten next week. Unless you use that zillion dollars to buy a bunch of tickets. Then the offer is void.
Result: $2.8 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
