The final pieces of the casting for the Wachowski brother’s Speed Racer is finishing up as Matthew Fox has just been cast as Speed’s mysterious racing rival, an enigmatic soldier of fortune and Australian actor Kick Gurry is in negotiations to play Sparky, Speed’s hippie mechanic.
The live-action update of the 1960s cartoon for Warner Bros. Pictures was both written and will be directed by the Wachowskis, their first film since Matrix Revolutions in 2003.
Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman have already signed on the dotted line and shooting is scheduled to begin this summer in Berlin. The storyline centers on a young race car driver, Speed (Hirsch), and his quest for glory in his thundering, gadget-laden Mach 5.
