Tom Rob Smith is an author I am guessing none of you have ever heard of and I haven’t either, but his debut novel “Child 44” which won’t hit bookshelves until 2008 has already been optioned by Fox 2000 and Ridley Scott is aboard to direct with his Scott Free production house ready to produce.
The story is set in Stalinist Russia, storyline revolves around an officer in the secret police who is framed by a colleague for treason. On the run with his emotionally estranged wife, he stumbles upon a series of child killings and launches his own rogue investigation, even though it means risking his own capture.
Even before Ridley releases American Gangster this November, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, he will next direct Leonardo DiCaprio in Penetration, which begins production in August.
