Box-Office Wrap-Up: Mar. 23 – Mar. 25

TMNT didn’t do quite as well as expected and 300 had a very odd week three. Time to break this thing down before the NCAA games start.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Seven Weeks In A Row
1. TMNT
I see a massive drop for the Turtles in the near future. Word of mouth between parents will spread at soccer games all around the country. Next time put Shredder in the picture you fiends!
Result: $25.4 million (My rank: #1, $4.8m off)
2. 300
Okay, follow this logic. It made $70m weekend one, strong early adopters. Then it dropped off 54 percent, so it seemed like all the people who wanted to see it had seen it early. This weekend it fell a paltry 38 percent. What gives? My theory is that all the people who saw it during that first weekend went on vacation a week and then told their friends. What else makes sense?
Result: $20.5 million (My rank: #3, $4.7m off)
The crappy part about this failure is that I really liked the series of books. They haven’t really pubbed it but this is based upon a whole sniper series. Now we’ll never hear from that series again.
Result: $14.5 million (My rank: #2, $1.6m off)
I just saw that Ray Liotta is in this too. I wasn’t on board before but count me in now. He’s the fifth Wild Hog!
Result: $14.3 million (My rank: #5, $1.7m off)
Rocked hard against TMNT. Didn’t have the budget dollars, didn’t have the buzz. An all around fumble from New Line.
Result: $10.2 million (My rank: #6, $2.3m off)
I can’t believe this beat Hills Eyes II in its second weekend out. That’s nasty. Does Sandra Bullock have a star on the walk of fame? If so, does it stop being famous?
Result: $10.1 million (My rank: #7, $1.4m off)
It will not reach the levels of the original Hills Have Eyes which means this franchise is a goner. I speak for the general public when I say it won’t be missed. You shoulda screened it suckers!
Result: $10.0 million (My rank: #4, $3.1m off)
It was what I thought it was. Sorry Adam and Don, I wasn’t enough to get you to double digits.
Result: $8.0 million (My rank: #8, $.6m off)
What a mauling this one received. I say good. I’m sick of the “people used to be really racist” movie. It’s an absolutely honest storyline but it’s been done far too often.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #9, $3.1m off)
Welcome to the Laremy lounge. As we all know the number ten slot is for my own musings and so I’ll just say this: God of War II rules all. It rules the moon and the sun, it rules the sea and the sky, it rules you and me. If I were you I’d by a PS2 and the game and kiss a few weekends goodbye. See you Thursday mi amigos.
Result: $3.4 million (My rank: #10, $.4m off)
