Box-Office Wrap-Up: Mar. 16 – Mar. 18

I was nine for nine on the Oracle until that last one did me in. But that’s okay, it was still an awe inspiring performance. One odd note, 300 didn’t do so hot in week two. What’s up guys?
#1 movie predicted correctly: Six Weeks In A Row
1. 300
From $70m to $31m is quite the drop off and normally that would signal poor word of mouth but in this case I don’t think that’s right. I’ve heard the word of mouth, people love it. I think the story was a little weak, which hurt some, and the monster fans came out weekend one and there wasn’t a second wave to kick in for week two.
Result: $31.1 million (My rank: #1, $6.4m off)
My mom and dad went to see this and howled. In other news: They are idiots.
Result: $18.8 million (My rank: #2, $1.0m off)
A very strong showing for Premonition. If word of mouth is strong and this hits double digits Sandra will almost have a reason to laugh at the critics. Almost, if her last dozen movies hadn’t been so rough and she wasn’t married to a biker show guy.
Result: $18.0 million (My rank: #3, $5.1m off)
Bingo was his name-o! That the exact dollar amount and the exact slot for all the kids out there who read Oracle. I rule at puppet movie predictions.
Result: $7.7 million (My rank: #4, DEAD ON)
Chris Rock did the monologue for SNL last night and it was just okay. He’s starting to feel like a 1990’s phenomenon.
Result: $5.7 million (My rank: #5, $1.6m off)
I would give $20 to never hear “This is Our Country” by Cougar Mellencamp again. Make it $50. Perhaps that’s how Chevrolet could stay in business, pure and simple extortion.
Result: $5.1 million (My rank: #6, $.6m off)
I’ve heard there is a sequel in the works, but they are going to set Nic Cage on fire for real this time. No CGI. It will be a bit darker film.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #7, $.1m off)
What didn’t people like here? The old school feel? Not enough gore? Jake G? It’s confusing. But my prediction was pretty solid no matter what.
Result: $3.0 million (My rank: #8, $.7m off)
$92.4m after this week and my drive to keep it away from triple digits is gathering steam. Tell a buddy, don’t see Norbit!
Result: $2.7 million (My rank: #9, $.2m off)
Here is the movie that broke the streak, and it’s Hugh Grant breaking my heart. S’okay Hugh. I can’t stay mad at you.
Result: $2.2 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
