Looks like Warner Bros. is going to have to wait on a follow-up to Superman Returns (thank God) as director Bryan Singer has just made a deal with United Artists to direct and as yet untitled thriller for the new studio, front-lined by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner.
The new film will reteam Singer with The Usual Suspects screenwriter Chris McQuarrie and the film is said to be in the same vain as Suspects in that it is a multi-character ensemble piece. One difference however is that it is set during World War II.
This new film is the second feature under the “new” United Artists as the first will be released later this year, Lions for Lambs, which stars Cruise and is directed by Robert Redford. Release is set for November 9.
The follow-up to Superman Returns was rumored to be eyeing a 2009 release, but there is no telling whether or not this project or several others Singer is circling will affect that.
