‘Cabin Fever 2’ Sans Eli Roth

I spoke with Saw and Dead Silence director James Wan recently (interview here) and he told me he thought Saw would be a straight-to-video movie. He was wrong. I think Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever will be a straight-to-video movie. I will be right.

Apparently Rider Strong’s death in the first film was a bunch of bollucks as his character Paul is alive and well. Oh, yeah he is also in fear of his life for the planned sequel which will also see Giuseppe Andrews (who?) return as the oddball Deputy Wilson (oh), who dumped the ill Paul in a stream at the end of the 2003 original. In the sequel, the killer virus comes out of the woods and has a date at the high school prom. Ha, ha, ha… this will be inventive, but shouldn’t it be named Prom Fever: Headed Straight to the $1 Bin?

Apparently uber director Ti West will be helming the follow-up and Judah Friedlander (who?) will play the Down Home Water security guard, Mark Borchardt (who?) portrays Winston’s cousin from Wombusaw, and fellow cult actor-director Larry Fessenden (who?) plays an ill-fated water truck driver.

Noah Segan, Alexi Wasser, Marc Senter and Rusty Kelley play new potential victims. Principal photography on the film is under way in North Carolina.

Apparently West has directed such instant classics as The Roost and the upcoming Trigger Man (can’t wait to see that one).

I thought the first Cabin Fever was a pile of poo. I have to wonder if even those that enjoyed the first movie will be interested in this one without Eli Roth being involved. While I didn’t really enjoy the film Roth brings a certain something to his movies that I just can’t see being duplicated, which hurts a cult film follow-up such as this. We’ll have to wait and see how it shapes up.
