Monahan Also Teaming Again with Scorsese

Well, William Monahan is teaming with all his Departed buds for another go around as we reported only minutes ago that he is back with Leo DiCaprio and now he is also set to work on The Long Play, a rock ‘n’ roll epic that will be developed as a directing vehicle for Martin Scorsese over at Paramount Pictures. This is not to be confused with Scorsese’s documentary he directed with Mick Jagger and his Rolling Stones bandmates last fall at the Beacon Theater and is eyeing a fall release from Paramount.

Monahan is rewriting the Long Play script, which follows two friends through 40 years in the music business, from the early days of R&B to contemporary hip-hop. Mick Jagger and his Jagged Films partner Victoria Pearman originated the project at Disney based on Jagger’s idea. Scorsese sparked to it, and they brought in Rich Cohen, a Rolling Stones mag writer who did exhaustive research and wrote several drafts. Matthew Weiss also wrote drafts.

Apparently the film didn’t fit Disney’s family film mold and Paramount snatched it up. Variety reports this to be Monahan’s next project despite rumors of Departed follow-ups.
