Abrams Will Direct ‘Star Trek XI’

Back on December 7, 2006 Variety posted an article in which it was confirmed that J.J. Abrams would direct Star Trek XI. Since then rumors started at LatinoReview that Abrams was off the film, which was then debunked by Ain’t It Cool News. Fortunately I steered clear of the madness and I am now glad, since I can tell you all that stuff as well as tell you Abrams is directing Star Trek XI as earlier reported.

The Hollywood Reporter brings the news saying along with it that the film revolves around a young James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, chronicling their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and their first space mission.

Despite the earlier report out of Variety mentioned above Abrams apparently did not commit to directing the film until Friday evening, when the deal was finalized.

So there you have it, begin the month after month rumor mill churning now as to who will play Kirk and Spock. Damon has already been said so get another one. I am going to go watch vintage Trek now, I think it is “Return to Tomorrow” tonight from Season 2.
