Well, I didn’t think they would entirely screw up an English-language remake of the Hong Kong thriller The Eye, directed by those bad ass brothers Pang, but it looks like they have by casting Jessica Alba in the lead along with Alessandro Nivola and Parker Posey.
For anyone that has seen the original you already know this is a movie that does not need big name actors, especially those that can’t act! I am pointing at you Jessica. The need for a pretty face is zero and while Alba certainly has the face, the ass and the everything else she is not a great actress and silly scared looks will ruin this movie.
The film follows a blind woman (Alba) who undergoes a risky cornea transplant operation that restores her vision, but causes a series of inexplicable events and visions. Unable to decipher what is real from what is a trick of her new eyes, she goes on a desperate path to uncover the truth and find out what it is that she is seeing through her new eyes.
Watching Alba in this role is already painful, but it seems like directors David Moreau and Xavier Palud have made up their minds.
The film is currently slated for a December 21 release from Lionsgate, but if tradition tells us anything it will not be released on December 21 from Lionsgate. The Lion is never sure of when to release a movie.
