Stomp the Yard will not win this weekend. Maybe I don’t know who will win, maybe I’ll be completely wrong, but I feel pretty good that Stomp won’t win again. It’s a really close final weekend in January, mediocre central.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero Weeks In A Row
1. Smokin’ Aces
This is a homer pick through and through. I liked the movie and am a fan of violence. Any film breaking double digits would be a good thing at this point.
Result: $16.3 million
2. Epic Movie
You don’t know people seeing this and I don’t know people seeing this but someone out there will be seeing this one this weekend. While I pity them I must also measure them.
Result: $14.6 million
If it had just been released a little earlier it would have been a real contender for Best Picture. I’m basing this on the fact that it’s better than Letters from Iwo Jima.
Result: $8.0 million
They need to do a sequel, and they need to do it now. Cheesy popcorn movies must be kept alive because otherwise we’re left with “art.” And art is rarely fun.
Result: $7.8 million
Give them some credit, this looks really terrible. Jennifer Garner needs a real role like I need a new crystal ball.
Result: $7.4 million
6. The Departed
The Departed is being re-released to 1300 more theaters based on the fact that it’s been nominated for everything except Super Bowl champion. Will people fall for this? Probably, because it is a nice Sunday afternoon at the theater.
Result: $5.4 million
7. Dreamgirls
It’s just an outrage that it didn’t get a Best Picture nomination; and the only explanation is that Oscar hates Danny Glover. I have no idea why.
Result: $4.8 million
I am very worried about this film because I have no idea what it is. I’m just going on the fact that it’s getting 1,200 only theaters which means someone isn’t confident in the product. I’m joining them.
Result: $4.6 million
9. The Hitcher
They went about marketing this all wrong. They should’ve just played up the fact that the guy was in The Lord of the Rings Don’t say anything other than that, leave it to the audiences imagination.
Result: $4.4 million
Right now I am on a cruise ship. Old people are all around me. I bring this up for no other reason then to point out that my numbers may be loopy, the blue hairs have me struggling.
Result: $3.9 million
