De Palma Back in Touch with War Crimes

Brian De Palma directed Casualties of War in 1989 and it touched upon some racy subject matter as it centered on five soldiers in the Vietname War, four of them take a young girl from her village and rape her while the fifth refuses. The films becomes a tale of one man’s quest for sanity and justice amidst the chaos of war. Production Weekly tells us that he will be delving into a similar quagmire with Redacted, a film based on the recent events surrounding the rape and murder of a 14-year old Iraqi girl, and the killing of three of her family members by four US soldiers.

Sounds like a party huh? The soldiers were sleep-deprived and living on energy drinks and sleeping pills in a situation where anyone outside the fence was considered the enemy. The killings have been the most provocative in a series of war crimes that have tarnished the reputation of US armed forces in Iraq reports Production Weekly.

The films narrative will be told using a mixture of video from news broadcasts, documentary footage, trial coverage, YouTube posts and excerpts from one of the soldier’s video blogs such as the one below.
