Craven and Son at Work on ‘Hills Have Eyes’ Sequel

Fangoria has put out an article saying that Wes Craven and his son Jonathan will be writing the sequel to the relatively successful Hills Have Eyes remake from helmer Alexandre Aja, a film that was based on Craven’s 1977 original.

Apparently the Hills sequel is being fast-tracked over at Fox Searchlight and Craven told Fangoria, “We want to continue the story of the miners… This time, a group of National Guard screw-ups come face to face with the mutants on their last day of training in the desert. We will take the audience underground [into the mines] as well. The studio, Fox Searchlight, wants the sequel out a year to the day after the last one, so we have to deliver our script in a matter of weeks.”

Aja reportedly declined the opportunity to pen the sequel so Craven and son took the duty upon themselves. On top of that the sequel this time around will have nothing to do with Craven’s critically panned own Hills sequel from 1985.

With Aja off the project a new director must be found and Craven told Fangoria, “We’re talking with Michael J. Bassett, now that Alexander is busy on another project [The Waiting].”

The new Hills will shoot this summer, and there is more on Craven’s movie future if you read the rest of the article here.

You can also preorder the Hills Have Eyes DVD right here, it is due out in rated and unrated forms on June 20.
