This one has to be funny. I don’t see where they can go wrong as Adam Sandler and Kevin James are set to take the title roles in the long-developed gay marriage laffer I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.
On top of that, David Dobkin, who directed Wedding Crashers, is aboard to direct the feature in which two straight firefighters pose as a gay married couple in order to qualify for their department’s domestic partner benefits.
Apparently pic producer Tom Shadyac was at one time considering helming the pic himself with Nicolas Cage and Will Smith in the title roles, and then Smith and James Gandolfini were in consideration. I think they made the right choice in Sandler and James, although James doesn’t exactly fit the firefighter mold.
The Variety article also mention that Sandler has an upcoming drama that I did not know about over at Columbia Pictures. The film is titled Reign O’er Me, which was written and will be directed by Mike Binder. The film is about a widower grieving over the loss of his family in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Sandler will next be seen in Click, which hits theaters on June 23.
