Well, we have added our first official award for the 2006 Award Season to the database as it was announced today that Anthony Hopkins will be the recipient of the HFPA’s Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 63rd Annual Golden Globe Awards.
The telecast will be held on NBC on January 16, 2006 where Hopkins will be honored with the award as voted on by the board of directors of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The announcement came this morning at a morning press conference by Geena Davis.
While Hopkins has never received a Golden Globe award, he has been honored with six nominations; including four as Best Actor (Drama) for Nixon (1995), The Remains of the Day (1993), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), and Magic (1978). He received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Amistad (1997) and a nomination as Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made-for-Television for “The Tenth Man” (1988).
Recent Cecil B. DeMille winners include Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004), Gene Hackman (2003), Harrison Ford (2002), Al Pacino (2001), Barbra Streisand (2000), and Jack Nicholson (1999).
