Al Pacino dominated the screen in The Devil’s Advocate, but this time he may be taking on a more lawyerly role as he is eyeing the lead role in MGM’s remake of the classic Witness for the Prosecution. With “Ally McBeal” and “Boston Public” scribe, David E. Kelley, set to adapt the screenplay and The Human Stain director, Robert Benton, in talks to helm.
The original was released back in 1957 and starred Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton and pulled in a Golden Globe for Elsa Lanchester for her supporting role as Miss Plimsoll.
The story is based on the Agatha Christie play and Pacino would be taking over the role once owned by Charles Laughton as the lead attorney in a case in which a wife appears as a witness for the prosecution against her husband.
