Brosnan Back in Crown’s Shoes

If you thought After the Sunset looked like a Thomas Crown Affair 2 effort for Pierce Brosnan, let me first tell you it is not even close, but it does look like the folks over at MGM would like to bring Mr. Crown back into the fold as sights have been set on a Crown sequel titled The Topkapi Affair, which will also be drawing material from the 1964 film Topkapi, which won an Oscar for Best Actor Peter Ustinov.

While it will not follow the Tokpakpi storyline verbatim it will draw on elements of the film in which a jeweled dagger is stolen from an Istanbul museum, and of course, Brosnan will be playing the role of Thomas Crown.

Brosnan’s Irish DreamTime producing partner Beau St. Clair told Variety Crown has a “post-Sept. 11” sensibility. “New York during ‘The Crown Affair’ was thriving,” she said. “Now his values, all the things he does, have been affected (by Sept. 11). We want to take the character further, crack him open, put him in an international backdrop.”

There was no word on whether or not Rene Russo would also be returning, considering she hasn’t seen big screen action since her role in the 2002 film Big Trouble with Tim Allen.
