Spider-Man Jumps Back to Comics

Yeah, I know this isn’t exactly a “movie” story, but based on Spider-Man’s success at the multiplex I figured a lot of you would be interested in knowing that the webbed one will be making his way back to the comic book format, and in a big way.

TOPICS Entertainment has announced the November 1st release of the newest in its very successful line of classic Marvel Comics published in CD-ROM format. The new title, 40 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man, will collect more than 40 years’ worth of Spider-Man comic books, from his debut in Amazing Fantasy #15 (March 1963), as well as every monthly issue of Amazing Spider-Man – issues #1 through 500 (December 2003.) All 501 complete full-color issues of Marvel Comics’ flagship character – more than 16,000 pages of comic books – will be available on 11 CD-ROMs, digitally-scanned from the original paper comic books, for a suggested retail price of only $49.99.

Before we go on, you can buy your own copy right now by clicking here, but if you need a little more convincing continue on.

This product will be especially unique as it will include every page of every 32-page comic book exactly as originally published: cover-to-cover, all the stories written by the legendary Stan “The Man” Lee and illustrated by Steve Ditko and John Romita, Sr., among others… all the letters pages, every “Stan’s Soapbox,” all the Bullpen Bulletins… even every vintage advertisement published in the comic books for more than 40 years.

Spider-Man is Marvel’s most famous character, and he was the comic book world’s first “super-hero with super-problems” in the early 1960’s – an awkward, lonely high-school student who was bitten by a radioactive spider and given amazing super-powers. He is the character most credited with changing the face of comic books forever, ushering in an era when super-heroes worried as much about their finances and love lives as they did about defeating super-villains. Over the years his likeness has appeared on every conceivable consumer product, and his character is the basis of the two most successful comic-book based movies ever released – Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 – No. 5 and No. 6 on the list of all-time movie blockbusters. Together these two films have grossed over $1 billion at the box office worldwide.

40 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man will be released approximately one month before the November 30, 2004 on-sale date of the DVD version of Spider-Man 2 – which is expected to sell as many as 10 million copies on its first day. The Marvel Comic Book Library, an earlier CD-ROM product from Topics Entertain-ment, has sold more than 17,500 copies since it was released in October 2003, and an earlier smaller Spider-Man CD-ROM – released in April 2004 and containing the character’s first 10 appearances – has sold nearly 30,000 copies.
