MTV News of all sources has posted an article saying that Denzel Washington will not be directing the Sammy Davis Jr. biopic as was previously rumored, instead he will be taking the director’s chair for a movie based on a true story about an all-black high school debate team in 1935 called The Great Debaters.
As for the Sammy Davis pic Denzel will still act as producer and has hired Wil Haygood, the author of the biography, “In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr” to pen the first draft of the script, which will start with Davis at age 4, when he first began singing and dancing with his father on the vaudeville circuit.
