Paramount Pictures released a couple of news bits today officially announcing two major productions for the studio.
First off they announced that Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks have slated the remake of War of the Worlds for a November 2004 start date, to be directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise. An Amblin’ Entertainment and C/W Productions film, The War of the Worlds, will be a 2005 release.
Based on H.G. Wells’ legendary science fiction classic, The War of the Worlds (published in 1898), the Spielberg-directed film is a modern day version of what many critics agree is the definitive model for alien invasion stories.
Just as well Paramount Pictures and Cruise/Wagner Productions officially announced that J.J. Abrams will direct the third installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise starring Tom Cruise. Previously being prepped in Berlin, the film is now set to begin shooting in the summer of 2005.
Abrams, the screenwriter of Armageddon, is also the creator of “Alias” and “Felicity” as well as a writer on the new television series “Lost.” Having directed all three of those series, Abrams makes his major motion picture directorial debut with the third installment of Mission: Impossible.
