Moviehole.net reports that according to the latest issue of Empire magazine teenage star Lindsay Lohan has signed on to play the lead role in the upcoming adaptation of the popular television series from the late 60s I Dream of Jeannie.
It is a bit of unexpected news considering Lohan is much younger than Barbara Eden who played the original Jeannie in the television series but word is that this is not going to exactly follow the series where Tony Nelson, a stranded NASA astronaut, stumbled upon a strange bottle and ultimately released a beautiful girl genie who was then required to do his every wish.
This new adaptation is supposedly opening 2,000 years ago in Persia, where a young woman’s quest to become a soldier earns her the punishment of being stuck in a bottle and sentenced to serve the first person who finds her.
I guess we will just have to wait on the official word, but it is known that Bend it Like Beckham director, Gurinder Chada, will be helming the pic for Columbia Pictures.
