There have been numerous rumors circulating around the web regarding the status of a new Alien or Predator 3 film. I was asked to write a response to this and tell you where things stand with the proposed films.
I have a synopsis and information page about the new AVP movie online at my site and on PlanetAVP.com as it stands now, Alien vs. Predator is the only confirmed film regarding either of the two characters.
There have been talks regarding an Alien 5 and scarcely an interview with Ridley Scott or James Cameron goes by without a rumor of either or both of them being involved in a new film. The same is true for series star Sigourney Weaver but as for now, there are no firm plans for a sequel.
There have been some scripts making the rounds in Hollywood and one is a two-part story that has the Space Jockey aliens seeding Earth with Aliens in a part 5 with a part 6 said to involved the Marine reprisal on the Space Jockey home world. For now this is all just idle fan speculation with nothing firm. Scott has confirmed talks but there is nothing solid. Cameron is busy prepping his new film and although it is sci-fi, it is not a new Alien movie.
On the “Predator Front”, there have been rumors of a Predator 3 dating back to a proposal by Robert Rodriquez almost ten years ago. The latest rumors have everyone from Schwarzenegger to The Rock taking on the alien hunters. For now, there is nothing more than interest with nothing solid to report.
As I have mentioned before, the success of the AVP movie will have significant impact as to when and if there is an Alien 5 or Predator 3 in the near future. It is just as likely that should the film prove to be a hit, an AVP 2 may be the next title to make it to the screen.
Now for some good news regarding the AVP film. A source involved with one of the publications that carry my work has informed me that he was able to see thirty minutes of the film. He agreed with my early report that it is not heavy on plot as it is mainly an excuse to get Aliens, Predators, and Humans into the same temple for the action. What he did say was that the footage he saw was amazing and that the action was intense and gripping. He concluded by telling me that fans are going to love it.
