Mike Newell, director of the upcoming fourth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire spoke with SCI FI Wire and discussed his conversations with Alfonso Cuarón, who is finishing up the third film in the series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Newell said, “What Alfonso has done very remarkably is he’s developed the films from a sunny vision of childhood into something that is much darker and blacker,” Newell said. “And he’s done that without taking away any of the romance of the thing. But he has transformed it into adolescence, and I must go on from what he’s done. [I] can’t go back.”
Goblet of Fire is set to begin production in late April and early May of 2004, and for those of you worried about the kids getting too old for their roles you will be happy to know that the returning cast will be actually be playing their true ages.
