Columbia Pictures Releases First Image From ‘Spider-Man 2’

Columbia Pictures released the first ever image from the highly anticipated “Spider-Man® 2” Saturday at Comic-Con in San Diego, the world’s largest gathering of comic book enthusiasts. “Spider-Man 2” is based on the phenomenally popular Marvel comic book series.

The image, which can be viewed here revealed Spider-Man’s newest nemesis “Doc Ock,” who is portrayed by Alfred Molina (“Frida”).

In “Spider-Man® 2,” the latest installment in the blockbuster “Spider- Man” series, Tobey Maguire returns as the mild-mannered Peter Parker, who is juggling the delicate balance of his dual life as a college student and a superhuman crime fighter. The adventure escalates and Spider-Man’s life becomes even more complicated when he confronts the brilliant scientist Dr. Otto Octavius (Molina), who is reincarnated as a nefarious and multi-tentacled villain — “Doc Ock.”

Sam Raimi returns as the director on Columbia Pictures’ “Spider-Man® 2” reuniting with producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel’s Avi Arad and a stellar cast, which in addition to Maguire and Molina, includes Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, J.K. Simmons and Rosemary Harris. “Spider-Man® 2” will be released worldwide on July 2, 2004.
