Live-Action Attack on Titan film is coming in September and October
Earlier this summer, it was revealed that FUNimation Entertaiment had secured the distribution rights to the live-action Attack on Titan film, which will be released in two parts. Now, FUNimation is back with the official release dates and a brand-new trailer for the film. Unlike most multi-part films that average up to a year between installments, moviegoers will wait just three weeks between Part 1 & 2. Attack on Titan Part 1 hits theaters beginning September 30, with Part 2 arriving in theaters beginning October 20.
“Fan reaction to Attack on Titan was extremely positive at the world premiere and we’re pleased to be able to announce dates for the theatrical releases in September and October,” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and President of FUNimation Entertainment. “Attack on Titan is a worldwide phenomenon and we are excited to bring the live action movies to not only fans of the manga and anime but also horror fans as well from across the U.S. and Canada.”
Based on the popular manga series of the same name, Attack on Titan takes place in a world where the remnants of humanity live inside a series of connected cities, isolated by enormous walls. These walls exists to keep the Titans out, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans seemingly without reason. These Titans have reduced the world’s population to staggeringly low numbers. The three main protagonists of Isayama’s manga are Eren Jaeger, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their friend Armin Arlert. Their lives are changed forever when a ‘Colossal Titan’ breaches the wall protecting their town, leading to the death of Eren’s mother. Vowing revenge and to reclaim the world from the Titans, Eren, Mikasa and Armin join the Survey Corps, an elite group of soldiers who fight Titans outside the walls.
In other FUNimation news, their latest theatrical release Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ has closed out its limited theatrical run with a total of over $8 million in North American box office. Though the film only played for nine total days, it landed in the Top 10 list of highest grossing domestic anime films of all time in just five.
