Tom Hardy is Taking on Vertigo Adaptation 100 Bullets

Tom Hardy will produce and may star in 100 Bullets

After the stars failed to align for Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road) to play Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad, the actor has gone with an even darker comic book adaption in the form of Vertigo’s 100 Bullets, which The Hollywood Reporter says he will produce and is in talks to star in for New Line Cinema.

Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso’s comic series, which launched in 1999 and concluded its planned 100-issue run in 2009, tells the modern-noir tale of a mysterious man named Agent Graves, who offers carefully-selected candidates a briefcase containing a handgun and 100 bullets along with the promise that anything they choose to do with those bullets they can never be held legally accountable for.

Chris Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes) penned the screenplay for 100 Bullets, which is said to hold true to the comics, and it is the first Vertigo property that New Line will shepherd from the beginning after inheriting Joseph Gordon Levitt’s Sandman film from Warner Bros. Back in June, Warners announced that all Vertigo titles will be developed at New Line to keep them separate from the DC Extended Universe superhero films.

Previous failed attempts to adapt the property include a Showtime TV series produced and written by David Goyer in 2011 as well as a feature film produced by Akiva Goldsman.

Hardy is producing alongside Dean Baker for their Hardy Son & Baker production company, with Geoff Johns and Adam Schlagman overseeing for DC. He will next be seen opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in this winter’s awards contender The Revenant as well as playing both Kray twins in the period British gangster saga Legend
