It’s a good day for Eisner-nominated comic book series. On the heels of news this morning’s that BOOM! Studios’ Lumberjanes is being planned as a big screen feature, Deadline brings word that The Wicked + The Divine, currently up for three Eisners, is being developed for television by none other than fellow industry talent Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick! They’ll produce the upcoming series for Universal Television through their Milkfed Criminal Masterminds.
Created by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie, The Wicked + The Divine is published by Image Comics and began last year. On their official site, Image offers the following description:
Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead. The team behind critical tongue-attractors like “Young Avengers” and “Phonogram” reunite to create a world where gods are the ultimate pop stars and pop stars are the ultimate gods. But remember: just because you’re immortal, doesn’t mean you’re going to live forever.
Shortly after the series launched, Gillen told Comics Alliance that the plan was for the story to run between 30 and 60 issues in total. At the moment, ten issues have been published with the 11th set to hit shelves next Wednesday, June 3.
