Last year’s Kickstarter campaign for a project called Kung Fury unleashed a firestorm of awesomeness via a 2-minute trailer, and now with the help of 17,713 backers, the 30-minute short film has kicked the internet into maximum overdrive after the makers dropped it on YouTube for all the world to behold its majesty. Check out the full, complete and unstoppable might of Kung Fury below!
Although the original Kickstarter goal for Swedish writer/director/star David Sandberg was a modest $200,000 dollars, hype over the trailer boosted the budget to over triple that amount, which enabled him to amp up the craziness (a triceratops cop, an arcade game robot, a Nazi army, Thor). Sandberg also enlisted The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone to play Adolph Hitler and none other than “Baywatch”/”Knight Rider” legend David Hasselhoff, who also contributed a song/music video titled “True Survivor” to Kung Fury, as if it wasn’t already sui generis.
In less than 24 hours, the movie has racked up 2.5 million views in addition to airing on Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network, and once you watch it you’ll be begging for more ’80s style lunacy from Sandberg and his Laser Unicorns productions.
