A remake of the 1999 romantic comedy She’s All That is on the way, according to a story today at The Tracking Board (via TheWrap). The Weinstein Company and Miramax are reportedly developing a new version that has Kenny Leon in talks to direct. No deal is yet in place, however.
The original film, directed by Robert Iscove and scripted by R. Lee Fleming Jr., starred Freddie Prinze Jr. as a popular high school student, who, in a contemporary take on My Fair Lady, bets his friends that he can, over the course of six weeks, transform an unpopular wallflower (Rachael Leigh Cook) into the prom queen.
The original She’s All That grossed more than $100 million worldwide and featured a supporting cast that included Anna Paquin, Paul Walker and Matthew Lillard. She’s All That was also the first feature film to pair Lillard and Prinze, who would go on to work together four more times over the following five years.
Leon recently directed Lifetime’s 2012 remake of Steel Magnolias, which starred Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashād, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashād. His other credits include the telefilms “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” and “In My Dreams.”
The She’s All That remake will be produced by Tonya Lewis Lee through her Tonik Productions.
