CBS has greenlit production on a 13th cycle of “The Amazing Race” from executive producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Bert van Munster. The series’ 12th edition is currently airing.
The quick pickup is a vindication for “Race,” which appeared to be fading in the ratings during its 11th outing earlier this year — but earned a pickup anyway.
CBS planned to air the 12th cycle of “Race” next year, but when “Viva Laughlin” failed, the network opted to sub in “Race” last month. It paid off: Helped by football, the nonscripted show notched its best premiere ratings since 2005.
Overall, the current cycle of “Race” has averaged 12 million viewers in its Sundays at 8 timeslot.
