Chris Columbus will direct and produce author Rick Riordan’s fantasy book The Lightning Thief for Fox 2000 through his 1492 Pictures, reports Variety. Maverick’s Greg Mooradian and Karen Rosenfelt also are producing.
“Lightning Thief” is the first book in Riordan’s series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”
The storyline revolves around a young boy who discovers that he’s the descendant of a Greek god, and his quest to quell a battle between mythological deities.
Columbus’ credits include Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Mrs. Doubtfire and Home Alone.
