Eva Longoria shares Meryl Streep is her cousin
Recently, Eva Longoria found out she has a surprising family connection to Meryl Streep. While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on March 19, Longoria revealed that she and Streep are cousins. The Desperate Housewives star shared that she learned about their family connection while participating in Faces of America, a genealogy series hosted by Dr. Henry Louis Gates. Through DNA analysis, the show identified Streep as her distant relative.
Longoria was thrilled by the revelation but initially felt unsure about mentioning it to Streep. She recalled being backstage at an awards show when a friend encouraged her to introduce herself. She said, “My friend was like, ‘There’s Meryl, go say you’re her cousin,'” Eva recalled. “I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna go up to Meryl Streep and say we’re cousins. It’s not gonna make any sense. I don’t know if she saw that part of the show.'”
However, to Longoria’s surprise, she didn’t have to break the news as Streep already knew and enthusiastically called out to Longoria, “Cousin! Cousin!” She mentioned that the two joked about their shared lineage. Longoria shared, “I was like, ‘Clearly you got the talent in the family.’And she’s like, ‘Clearly you got the beauty.’”
Beyond their newfound family bond, the two actresses are also now colleagues. Longoria recently joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building for its fourth season, in which Streep plays Loretta Durkin.
