Is Blake Lively or Justin Baldoni winning in their lawsuit?
As Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s legal battle continues to unfold with new developments, many are questioning who is winning. However, until a verdict is reached, there is no clear winner. As of now, the trial is set to take place in March 2026.
Most recently, Lively filed a motion to dismiss Justin Baldoni’s defamation and civil extortion lawsuit against her. According to Fox News Digital, Lively’s attorneys argue that Baldoni’s lawsuit is a “public relations instrument” meant to harm her reputation. They further claim the lawsuit violates California laws that protect individuals speaking out against sexual harassment or retaliation. The filing highlights multiple legal barriers to Baldoni’s claims, including “the litigation, fair report, and sexual harassment privilege.”
Lively’s legal team also asserts that the lawsuit could backfire. Lively’s attorneys, Mike Gottlieb and Esra Hudson, condemned Baldoni’s lawsuit as a misuse of the legal system, calling it “vengeful and rambling.” This comes shortly after Reynolds’ legal team submitted a motion seeking to have him removed from Baldoni’s lawsuit.
In response, Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, issued a statement to PEOPLE. He dismissed Lively’s motion as an attempt to manipulate the legal system for personal benefit. Freedman said, “We will continue to hold Ms. Lively accountable for her actions of pure malice, which include falsely accusing my clients of harassment and retaliation.”
Previously, Freedman addressed whether the legal battle with Blake Lively could be settled. During his appearance on The Town podcast, he said a resolution is unlikely as Baldoni is focused on clearing his name rather than negotiating a settlement. Freedman added that the accusations have had a significant impact on Baldoni.
