Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey John Leguizamo recently spoke about the Academy Award winning director’s approach to filmmaking in a new interview. It was reported in January 2025 that Leguizamo had joined the cast of Nolan’s upcoming feature. Some of the other actors who will appear in the movie are Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
John Leguizamo says Christopher Nolan is making The Odyssey ‘like an indie film’
John Leguizamo made an appearance on the MSNBC chat show Morning Joe to discuss his upcoming movie Bob Trevino Likes It along with co-star Barbie Ferriera. Christopher Nolan and The Odyssey came up during the conversation. Joe Scarborough diverted the conversation toward The Odessey by humorously referring to Nolan as a small-budget filmmaker. He asked Leguizamo how “exciting” it was for the latter to work with the filmmaker.
“You know the thing is… okay, he’s got a crazy budget, it’s not small,” the Ice Age franchise star noted. “But he runs it like an indie film. Because he’s not doing it by committee, he’s not doing it by what the studio says … He’s like an indie filmmaker, but with crazy money.” Notably, The Odessey reportedly has a budget of $250 million (via Screenrant).
Leguizamo remained mostly tight-lipped about the project. Various outlets reported in October 2024 that Nolan would write, direct, and produce his next film at Universal Pictures after the successful collaboration with the studio on Oppenheimer (2023).
In December 2024, Universal revealed that Nolan was adapting Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. In mid-February 2025, it was confirmed that Matt Damon, with whom Nolan previously worked on Oppenheimer and Interstellar (2014), will play Odysseus.
The filming for The Odyssey is currently ongoing. It is slated to come out in the US in IMAX and other theaters on July 17, 2026.
