Coco 2 is happening.
The Walt Disney Company has announced that Coco 2 is officially in the works at Pixar Animation Studios. It serves as a sequel to 2017’s Coco, which was directed by Lee Unkrich and co-directed by Adrian Molina.
Coco 2 will see Unkrich return as director and Molina as co-direct. Mark Nielsen, who has worked on Pixar movies such as Toy Story 4 and Inside Out 2, will serve as producer.
When is the Coco 2 release date window?
As announced in an X post from the official Pixar account, Coco 2 has been given a 2029 theatrical release date window.

Plot details and casting remain under wraps at this time. Speaking at The Walt Disney Company’s annual meeting of shareholders, CEO Bob Iger said, “While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure. And we can’t wait to share more soon.”
The synopsis for the original Coco movie reads, “Despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Héctor, the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.”
Coco’s voice cast includes Anthony Gonzalez as Miguel, Gael García Bernal as Héctor, Benjamin Bratt as Ernesto de la Cruz, Alanna Ubach as Mamá Imelda, Renée Victor as Abuelita, and Ana Ofelia Murguía as Mamá Coco. The film received Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Remember Me” by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez). It grossed approximately $814.3 million at the global box office.
Coco is currently available to stream on Disney+.
