Amid shifting release schedules, Warner Bros. has announced major changes to its upcoming film slate. Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial The Bride, led by Christian Bale, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another are among the high-profile projects facing release date delays. As anticipation builds, the studio is adjusting its strategy to accommodate production challenges, distribution plans, and audience expectations.
The Bride starring Christian Bale pushed to March 2026
Warner Bros. moved Christian Bale-led The Bride’s release date from September 26, 2025, to March 6, 2026.
Starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, the film is reportedly a loose remake of Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Sources report post-production challenges, while Warner Bros. stated the new date aligns with spring holidays and school breaks. Warner Bros. also delayed Leonardo DiCaprio-led One Battle After Another from August 8, 2025, to September 16, 2025. The shift enables a global IMAX release and allows time to install projection systems for its VISTA VISION format. With a budget of over $130 million, the film reportedly adapts Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland (1990) and features Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, and Benicio del Toro.
The studio further moved Zach Cregger’s horror film Weapons from January 11, 2026, to August 8, 2025. The horror film features Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, and Cary Christopher.
The Cat in the Hat will now be released on February 27, 2026, instead of March 6, 2026. David Robert Mitchell’s Flowervale Street shifted from March 13, 2026, to August 14, 2026, starring Anne Hathaway, Christian Convery, Jordan Alexa Davis, Ewan McGregor, and P.J. Byrne.
Sources report that The Bride received low test scores, prompting Warner Bros. executives, including Pamela Abdy, to oversee the restructuring. Maggie Gyllenhaal previously directed The Lost Daughter (2021), which earned three Oscar nominations and won Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival.
