Bobby Witt Jr. suffered an injury on Wednesday during the Kansas City Royals’ spring training game against the Seattle Mariners. In the fifth inning, he was hit on the left forearm by a 95.9 mph sinker from Andrés Muñoz. The injury occurred in the fifth inning when Seattle reliever Andrés Muñoz threw a 95.9 mph sinker that struck Witt, causing him to immediately grab his arm in pain. Despite trying to shake off the discomfort, he eventually exited the game and was replaced by Tyler Tolbert.

The Royals later provided an update, confirming that Witt had a left forearm contusion but that X-rays showed no fracture. He will continue to be evaluated. Manager Matt Quatraro noted that Witt initially lost feeling in his fingers but later regained sensation. According to Quatraro, Witt was already scheduled to leave the game in the next inning.

Witt was a key player for the Royals in the 2024 season, leading the team in several offensive categories and finishing second in American League MVP voting. His injury comes just weeks before the Royals’ season opener against the Cleveland Guardians on March 27. His availability for opening day remains uncertain.

In the same game, Royals outfielder Nelson Velázquez also suffered an apparent leg injury while attempting to catch a fly ball. His condition is yet to be updated. As of now, fans are hoping for Witt’s quick recovery.
