AEW Reportedly Planning Title Unification — Will Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada Happen?

AEW is reportedly planning to unify the Continental Championship and the International Championship. The titles are currently held by Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega.

Okada signed with AEW last year and immediately aligned with The Elite on his debut night. The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion quickly rose through the ranks and captured gold. On an episode of Dynamite, he defeated Eddie Kingston to win the Continental Championship, securing his first title in AEW.

Meanwhile, Kenny Omega made his long-awaited return earlier this year after being sidelined for over a year. He wasted no time reigniting his rivalry with Konosuke Takeshita and former ally Don Callis. Takeshita had previously scored two victories over Omega in a trios tag team match at AEW All In and another in a singles match at AEW All Out.

However, Kenny Omega finally got his revenge at AEW Revolution, defeating Takeshita to win the International Championship. As the promotion continues to expand its championship lineup, reports suggest the promotion plans to unify its secondary titles.

The AEW International Championship and the AEW Continental Championship. This potential unification has fueled speculation about a long-awaited showdown between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada.

AEW plans title unification, but Omega vs. Okada match remains unclear

Fightful Select behind paywall revealed that multiple AEW sources confirmed this title unification idea was pitched months ago. The idea was initially seen as a strong creative direction. However, details remain uncertain regarding which wrestlers will be involved and whether the titles will merge into one or remain separate.

However, the unification raises the question of whether it will lead to a dream match between Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada. Reports indicate that, as of now, there is no confirmation on whether an Omega vs. Okada clash is included in the plans.

With title unification plans in motion, the match could potentially take place at AEW’s biggest show, All In Texas, scheduled for July 12, 2025, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
