Ayo Edebiri Calls Out Elon Musk for Fake Pirates of the Caribbean Casting Post

The Bear actress Ayo Edebiri has claimed that she received death threats and was subjected to racial slurs after Elon Musk shared a fake movie announcement post on X (formerly Twitter). According to the announcement, Disney was considering Edebiri as a replacement for Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

What did Ayo Edebiri say about Elon Musk?

Edebiri recently took to Instagram Story to share a screenshot of Musk quote-posting a seemingly fake update from an account on X. As mentioned above, the post claims that Edebiri was in consideration at Disney as a potential replacement for Johnny Depp in Pirates 6. In his post, Musk used the caption, “Disney Sucks.”

“Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man LMAO,” Edebiri claimed, adding, “So not only is he a double s**g h**l-ing fascist, he’s an idiot, but anyway.” (via Complex)

The Opus actress added at the bottom of her Story, “Life is, of course, a gift.”

Notably, Johnny Depp has appeared as Captain Jack Sparrow in all previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, On Stranger Tides, and Dead Men Tell No Tales. Over the years, there have been a lot of speculations about a potential sixth Pirates movie. In December 2024, it was reported that franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer was working on two separate Pirates scripts, one of which could bring Depp back if he and Disney can resume their better professional relationship.

Meanwhile, Edebiri is experiencing a rise in the entertainment industry. For her portrayal of Sydney Adamu in the recent comedy-drama series The Bear, she has received multiple accolades, including a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award.
