Here’s everything to know about when and why Interstellar is leaving Netflix.
Here’s why Interstellar is leaving Netflix and when
Interstellar will no longer be available for streaming on Netflix from Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
The film by Nolan is leaving Netflix because its streaming license expires on March 31, 2025. The movie landed on Netflix on Thursday, January 1, 2025, a month after its theatrical re-release in December 2024. Warner Bros. had signed a streaming agreement with Netflix for a limited period of time, which has now reached its final days. The movie will no longer be included in its roster.
As per Netflix’s official website, “Whenever a TV show or movie license is expiring, we consider things such as: If the rights to the title are still available, how popular it is in a region, and how much it costs to license.” Interstellar falls into the first category for removal. It’s difficult to tell whether or not the movie will return to Netflix’s catalog in the future. But at the moment, the possibility seems bleak. Thus, fans have limited time to stream the movie one last time on Netflix before it leaves on April 1.
Besides Interstellar, Netflix will remove many beloved movies from its streaming roster on April 1. Joining the Nolan classic in its departure from the streaming giant are It (2017), Miss Congeniality (2000), The Menu (2022), How to Train Your Dragon (2010), the Rush Hour series, The Karate Kid trilogy, and many more.
